GONDWANA (OPAL TAPES)
“Andrea Taeggi is an Italian musician residing in Berlin. After graduating from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he had the chance to deepen his experience in acoustic improvised music working with a variety of ensembles of the lively Dutch improv scene (using prepared piano, percussion, a.o.) he delved into electronic music ranging from research sound design to post-dance floor. Nowadays he’s part of the duo **Lumisokea (Opal Tapes/Digitalis/Anti-vj) **which released 5 records (https://lumisokea.bandcamp.com/) and has a forthcoming one on American label Digitalis due in late September. He toured extensively in Europe, and also in North and South America. He just started Gondwana, his new solo project whose debut record release is expected in late October on UK label Opal Tapes. His music can be described as sculptural, tactile, meditative, bodily, using improvisation during his live shows. He’s interested in working with all sorts of lesser known instruments from the past as an inspirational basis for composing and sound sculpting.”
**CROCANTI **is a solo project by Martí Guillem Císcar, based on the research of sounds in electronic devices, toys, and retro stuff, developing personal interfaces with the art of circuit bending, which are his own way of playing music, based on noises, randomness and live-performance. Most of the elements are recycled or reused and also some d.i.y. instruments are often used, mixing them to generate a concrete audiovisual experience.
multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser, zeena parkins, pioneer of contemporary harp practice and performance, reimagines the instrument as a “sound machine of limitless capacity.” parkins has built three versions of her one-of-a-kind electric harp and has extended the language of the acoustic harp with the inventive use of unusual playing techniques, preparations, and layers of electronic processing.
parkins’s compositions have been commissioned by nextworks ensemble, merce cunningham dance company, roulette intermedium, the eclipse quartet, william winant, bang on a can, the whitney museum, the tate modern, montalvo arts center, the donaueschinger musiktage and sudwestrundfunk/swr.
parkins has released four solo records featuring her electric and acoustic harp playing and has released her compositions and band projects on six tzadik recordings, with a new tzadik cd with ikue mori and phantom orchard orchestra, trouble in paradise, to be released in november 2012. as a sought-after collaborator zeena has worked with: fred frith, björk, ikue mori, dame evelyn glennie, maja ratkje, hild sofie tafjord, john zorn, butch morris, chris cutler, elliott sharp, nels cline, alex cline, william winant, anthony braxton, pauline oliveros, yoko ono, christian marclay, matmos, yasunao tone, so percussion, bobby previte, carla kilhstedt, tin hat, james fei, kim gordon, lee renaldo and thurston moore.
